1998 S70t5 misfire CEL comes on

Post by s70fanman »

Gentlemen-
This is s70fanman again and I STILL have a miss at idle and now a CEL came on and it shows a #1 cylinder misfire and the Idle is still shaky at best. I have checked for vacuum leaks and my Vacuum Gauge shows about 18-20 inches. I have replaced cap, rotor and spark plug wires to no avail. After the spark plug replacement the car revved to about 2500-3000rpms for about two minutes and finally settled down, but this morning I noticed that my Idle is about 300rpms too high at about 1100rpms and normally it is 850-1000rpms. I even waited for the motor to warm up and it was still too high. I am at a loss as to what this problem is and it is imperative that I get this problem solved soon. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanx, s70fanman

A few things you can do:

1. Swap plugs from cylinder 1 to another and see what happens.
2. Pop off the ignition wire and put a flashlight in there. For some reason that cars do not like Bosch wires. I would recommend the 8mm from IPD or O/E.
3. Check the connection at the distributor cap. Again, pull it off and inspect the connection with a flashlight.

I have 2 98 S70's and both have had multiple misfires. Each time it was a plug not gapped properly or a cable with a bad boot. Good Luck!!
