2008 xc90 Replacement front axles

Post by williala »

I've got a low speed vibration upon accelerating, and from consensus, I'm pretty sure it the result of a bad passenger side front axle.
My question, is finding a replacement axle. Plenty of choices for the V8, but I'm having a devil of a time finding something for the 3.2 6 cylinder.

Does anyone have any information on a good source for 3.2L axles?

Thanks.

How many miles are on your car?
Have you inspected the engine mounts?

It has 96,000 and the engine mounts seem ok. I'm pretty sure its the passenger front axle, as it only happens at 1500-2200 RPM's under load and mostly 3rd and 4th gear.

You are describing engine mount issues. A cv axle is going much different speeds at that RPM range in the two gears. CV axle vibrations usually are at take off and then at some road speed they reach peak amplitude and then will fall off but with increasing vibration frequency.
Engine mount issues like an RPM range and a load factor.
The RH engine mount (passenger side) is a first place to inspect. In P3 models the engines suspend on higher mounts with some low end torque control mounts. That engine mount is hard to see though. The aluminum cast cover obscures it. You have to look with a mirror to see if the mount seems to have collapsed and has engine mounted part resting on body bolted bracket.

Any chance you have the part no. diagram or picture of the mount? there are a number of them and I am not sure which one I need to check as I have a similar problem on my 08.

Thanks in advance!

Number 1 in the illustration is the RH or front of engine mount.
Number 2 is above transmission.
