2011 XC60 Battery completely drained SRS sevice light

Post by steve567 »

The battery on my 2011 XC recently died, I have to jump start the car and now the SRS service light will not go out. Does anyone know how to resolve this.

Thanks

The two may or may not be related.

1st of all, replace your battery. Undervolt events play all kinds of hell. If there's a choice of sizes like there is in the 850s, get the physically bigger one, favoring standby capacity over cold cranking amps.

2nd, check your service schedule. It might be time for the airbag to be serviced by the dealer.

Speaking of stealerships, is it not still under warranty?

It is still under warranty, I am in a part of Africa that has zero Volvo dealerships so I cannot take it in for service. The battery is just over 2 years old and the car has 5900 miles. Someone left the ignition on overnight and completely drained the battery. I hope that I can just charge the battery and go from there. Is there a procedure for resetting the service light?

To reset the SRS caption will require access to Vida software running on a PC (Laptp) connected to the car via a DiCE interface, look at a certain on-line auction site to find the DiCE units which are often supplied with the required software - Mike

If you can jump it, you can just let it run for 20 minutes to charge. If it restarts on its own, fine. If you need to re-jump it, get a battery. Sometimes, deep discharging can screw them up. Sometimes not.

+1 get your hands on Vida/DiCE. If it takes a space rocket to get to a dealership, you absolutely need that.

You need to clear codes and activate SRS system via DiCE + Vida.
After battery is dead or disconnected SRS becomes inactive on the P3 cars so
it needs to be activated back.
If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer :)

That was done to protect from accidental blow of SRS bags while connecting battery back.
After connecting the battery you need to switch ignition to position 2 through the window. After that you need to connect to VIDA and activate power to SRS bags.

That is why on P2 cars you need to reconnect battery with ignition key in II position.

P80 has no such idiocy. Were there enough incidents of accidental deployments not attributable to mechanic stupidity to actually justify this, or is it just another attempt at stealership lock-in?
