AC intermittently emits squealing sound. Seems to be specific to a certain range of highway speeds. Goes away when AC is turned off. It is very cold here at the moment, so the AC is heating the car.
Any hints on possible causes? A belt that needs to be tensioned? Something trapped in the system? How to troubleshoot? Not sure whether this is coming from fan since defogging with high fan power does not result in sound.

Where is the squeaking coming from really?
Get a mechanics stethoscope (a short garden hose will do fine) and try to see if it comes from the engine bay or the interior of the car. If its the inside, then the blower motor is failing, if its the engine bay, then your AC clutch for the compressor if failing (the thing that makes your car cold).
