2002 S60 ETM Issues (Lucky me)

Post by moosemanusa »

Hi there,

New to the board but not new to volvo's use to race S70's a few years back..

Have this 2002 S60 2.4 Base (non turbo)..

Throttle body was bad, kept cutting out..

Had the part: 8644345 the Italian POS..

So pulled that and stuck in the 8644347 part (yellow sticker)..

So car runs, doesnt stall however its running lean, jerky, idles like #$#@$ but hey at least it doesnt stall lol..

I've tried the relearn procedure twice now..

Disconnect Battery wait 15 minutes
reconnect with key in position II
Start, wait for middle arrow on the heat (not touching anything)
N for 1 minute
D for 1 minute
go for drive, hit the highway and slowly cycle up to top gear, exit freeway in my way and come to a stop..

That hasnt worked.. any other ideas? MAF sensor is new..

Thanks..

Software is the ETM is wrong.
If you have old throttle body it is possible to replace software from old one to new.
If you have questions about Volvo firmware ask me. I may know an answer :)

I have the old one still, how does one replace "software"from the old to new? is it a PCB board somewhere within the unit?

You really didn't say that, did you?
You go to Volvo and get a download

You have the wrong part number

The 8644347 was exclusive to S70/V70 until 2000, the S80s until 2002 and also the turbo versions of V70/S60 in P2 series. This number now supercedes to 36001822 and 36050563.

The 8644345 and 8644344 were used in non turbo P2s and were replaced by part number 36001821 and 36050564.

You can't program a 8644347 to suit your car. See if you can return it.

precopster, you are right from the official view and off course dealer cannot upload right software for this ETM.
But practically the software from xxx345 works perfectly in xx347. I did that my self.

moosemanusa,
It is impossible to replace the PCB (at least in an easy way). The only way is using OBD to read old firmware and put to the new ETM.

Doublebug if you can give me some info on the firmware transfer procedure from ETM to ETM this would be greatly appreciated.

I repair and refurbish ETMs here in Oz and this info would assist me in dealing with many scenarios where a ETM is unrepairable and a used ETM with different programming is sourced.

Please PM me if this is possible.

Not sure what that means, was that a snipe?

I've done my research and each site contradicts other sites, some push certain products (for a commission I'm sure..), Even people selling the units new give the wrong advice..

However at the end of the day an EEPROM is an EEPROM!

found a ETM with the part number 8644344

that didnt work either.. it seems the 8644345 part is very very rare.. getting to the point of unsoldering the eerpom from the old one and resoldering into the new unit..

Now it runs rought at idle and then fluxuates the rpm, so its combined the problem of the other two units into one.. yay.

any ideas,, anyone got a old 45 unit laying around they can sell..
