Ok, So I went to change my inner tie-rods on my 2002 S80.
Right from the start, I was blocked.
In attempting to remove the boot, I couldn't access the inner ring-clamp - I could see where I might (might) have been able to get a long screw-driver in to spread the pinch-clamp, and get it off - BUT, I just don't see how I would be able to re-pinch it later, when needing to reinstall the boot.
Other than removing the subframe of the car, how does everyone remove, and reinstall, the inner boot?
I am half-inclined to leave the inner clamp intact, slit the outer part of the boot enough to get access to the inner tie-rod, then rubber-cement the boot after.
But, then again, that's trading one problem for another.....which I never really like to do.
As luck would have it, while I was under the car scoping out ways to get at the inner-clamps, I noticed the passenger side inner CV joint is spewing grease. There is no tear anywhere on the boot - the grease appears to be squeezing out the backside of the boot, where it attaches to the axle. I would guess the only thing to do would be to tighten the pinch-clamp. I can't remember if there was access to do this with the axle on the car - but, I doubt it - if there were, I woulda tried that when I saw it.

Ok - so I went ahead and cut the boot with a razor, and pulled off.
Turns out, the inner tie-rods are fine. No play at all at the inner tie-rod,, no play at all at the outer tie rod - BUT, there is play in the wheel (when push/pulling wheel from the 90/270 degree positions, it moves - maybe 1/3").
So, is the problem with the steering rack itself?
