Hi everyone and it's nice to make my first post on your forum.
I have a 2002 S80 which I think has an alarm fault, reading the other threads it looks like it might be the siren unit that is faulty because for a while now the "alarm service required" information has shown in the dashboard.
I never thought much about it but yesterday the hazard lights kept going off whenever they felt like it and were flashing in a completely random way. The only way to stop it was to start the engine.
Last night I took all the relays out and pulled various wires and when the car was locked up it all seemed fine.
Needless to say when I got up and tried to go to work this morning there was a weak flash from the indicators and the battery was dead !
So, the question is, as I sit here at work looking forward to a taxi home later, will the car still function without the siren unit connected, albeit without an alarm of course, or is there something else in the form of a relay that can be removed to stop this happening again until a new unit arrives if I decide to get one.
Thanks for any advice you can give.
Mick.

Hello,it happened to me too ,first when I closed the driver door and lock it the alarm went off (11:00pm)and light flashing, open the door start the car,no alarm ,did it couple times still the same thing .I open the door at the end of dashboard driver side there a cover of fuses box ,pull that cover out there is a sticker behind that cover indicate which fuse #is used for look for one that that said "alarm" (I forgot the fuse #)and pull it out to stop light flashing ,kill the alarm and save battery live ,I ordered the part and three day later my sunroof quit also.but I found in the site how to replace it by"Vegasjetskier"in this forum also and it help a lot plus saved me some money too.The part is not cheap but it beats dealer price.
I followed every steps of work but skipped #11 because mine is screw in not rivet.I toss the old part away. After installed, tested,it works, yes it been over a year a go.You need to full recharge battery because Volvo is too picky.Good luck

I have an '05 S-80 and had the same problem with the alarm. What happened to mine is the batteries in the siren started leaking and the corrosion dripped onto the circuit board and shorted it out. The siren is inside the passenger wheel well. I pulled mine out and cut it open to confirm the leakage as I had read about it on another post. I have been driving without it for at least 6 months. When I start it, the majority of the time there is a warning that alarm service is required but that is all.
