1994 Volvo 850 EGR cleaning

Hello, I was recently replacing my PCV system. upon doing this I noticed A LOT of carbon build up. The EGR being the worst. The ports had no airflow at all, and the build up was hard to break through. Probably gonna be easy to remedy, but I cant seem to remove the pipe from the valve. Can someone help?

Getting the valve off is always a bear. I have found the path of least resistance to be to remove the valve from the intake manifold by removing the two small bolts (hand cramp alert) that bolt the valve on from below. Once the intake manifold is use long wrenches to loosen the pipe. I'm not so sure I didn't use a big pipe wrench the last time I did it but that was a few years ago.

The main thing to get clean is the hole through the bottom of the intake manifold itself. For the valve, you can usually just use brake cleaner on it while it is in place and get it clean enough.

After cleaning how do you know if it is still functional? Is there any kind of test?

Vacuum test if you have mightVac to make sure valve inside EGR is still in working condition.
