Hi everyone i am in need of some urgent advice regarding my 02 v70 auto.
The whole dash has started to go into darkness so all dials speedo, temp & fuel guage clock and dim are not visable. Then after a few miles it will come back to life and then go off again a few miles later.
when operating correctly i have now got a SRS airbag service urgent message. Please could anybody advise what i need to do to remedy this problem.
many thanks in advance.

It sounds like your DIM is near kaputt. In an hour or two someone will write and offer to sell you a refurbished one that they sell from their business. This is one route, and seems to work, and is much cheaper than buying a new one. I wrote a description on how to change out yours with a used one, which is much less expensive. I think that got posted on the Repairs pages. This kind of depends on whether you're aim is to keep mobile or to have a nice ride. If you just need a DIM that works, go to a junk yard that has several Volvos and keep plugging in their DIMS until one works properly. This cost me about $70 US. Even though they all look the same, and all plug in, there must be many. many software revs. Some just would not work when I plugged them in, others only worked some functions. I notice now that one of my trip odos resets every time I start the car, and the odo shows the junk car's mileage (even though the car has retained its true mileage in some other computer and will display when the factory scanner is hooked up to the car. Again, your choice. Spend over $1100 for new, $300-400 for a clean-ed up rebuild, or go the $70 route and have a speedo, tach, working idiot lights, and someone else's mileage.

I replaced the DIM in my 03 V70 with one from a wrecking yard, but there's a catch. There are some code numbers printed on the back side of each and every DIM. Certain parts of those numbers (I don't know off hand which parts) must match between your old DIM and the replacement DIM. I procured the replacement DIM through Southern Vo-Vo, a MVS advertiser, and they knew which numbers need to match. The replacement worked fine however the odometer continues to display the mileage from the donor car. Also, if you already have an SRS warning illuminated, it will continue to do so after you install the new DIM. You will need to find a repair facility that has the necessary Vida Dice equipment to clear the warning light, or take it to dealer to have it cleared. In my case I went to our local independent Volvo repair shop and they cleared the warning light for about $30.
