1999 S70 MP3 adapter mod loud static

I followed Roberts "Volvo SC Stereo Radio MP3 Adapter Mod " yesterday.

It works, sounds great, and was easy to do. The only problem is, when I turn on my device, or change songs, I get a real loud static "thump" coming through my speakers. Anyone else do this mod with similar issue?

My dodge ram with built in mp3 aux does the same thing. Seems normal

I believe it has something to do with these phones. It does NOT happen with my wife's or my old phone's mp3 player.

Doesn't happen with Pandora, just mp3 apps. I use my tape adapter more than the mp3 mod connection because I'm afraid that I will damage my speakers one day.

I'm seeking a fix for that.

I think you're right, it depends on what device you use. I tried it with my daughters iphone 5 and it didn't happen, unless the volume is turned way up. Still a good mod, the sound is cd quality.

Update.

I tried it today with an old ipod nano, and it worked great. Plugged in my new blackberry and I get the static.

I wonder if it will do it with a head phone adapter that plugs into the HDMI Mini connector or the power adapter? I'll order one from eBay and test it out.

I just finished modifying the stereo in my 1998 V70. I'm going to do my 2004 XC70 next, it should be the same procedure.
