Broken Push to Open Ashtray

Post by iroll »

I've got `99 V70. I took it in to have the a/c repaired and got it back with a broken ashtray. The mechanic at the repair shop denies that he touched it. So here I am with a broken ashtray. I only use to store coins in but it annoys me that everytime I try to open it I end up pulling the entire tray out and spilling the coins.

I have taken the assembly out and looked at it but can't determine why the "push" to open mechanism doesn't work. It could be that a spring or other part is missing or broken. It opens smoothly but there is no resistance when it comes to pushing it to open.

Any ideas, pictures, directions, links or any other help would be appreciated.

Was the A/C repair one that they had to take the dash out to do? If so, then there's even more reason to "accuse" them of this. When a mechanic did my A/C repair on our old 850 he cracked the instrument panel plexiglass. He did it so cheap, I didn't complain. Anyway, I would complain very loudly to the service manager at the shop you had it done. It would cost them almost nothing to repair/replace it...let them trouble shoot it and get it done.

The dash did have to come out. I had hoped that all I would need to do is re-attach a spring or somthing. But I took my time about getting to look at it and now I've waited too long.
