Hello MVS'ers,
I'm going to do a solenoid swap on my 2000 S80 to (hopefully) cure P0756 / P1618. I want to order a kit and change ALL the solenoids and the pressure switch at the same time. I've found many sources for parts that specify the same kit for my year / make but I wanted to know:
Are the solenoids for the 4T65EV / 4T65E and the 4T65EV-GT the same? Is the GearTronic function of our transmissions purely a function of the TCM / shifter telling the same mechanical parts what to do?
Thanks in advance.

I think I have this right, but I'm not 100% sure:The geartronic is electronic control of the solenoids. There is a valve body difference as well IIRC.
For transmission questions and parts, I suggest http://www.tripleedgeperformance.com.
Price may not be the cheapest, but you get quality parts and top notch service.

That's what I've been able to surmise as well with everything I've read. I ordered parts today, should be here in a few days and I'll spend a long weekend getting the side cover off the transmission and replacing them. I'll post pictures of what I find.

The GT is a shifter with decoupling from the cable (lever can move into left gate), gear selector module (control module built into gear shift top plate) with the lever sensors, and software in the TCM. The turbo and non turbo 99-06 S80 GM gearboxes differ in ratios but VB solenoids are the same. VB may have differences in some drilled plate holes that act as orifices between the turbo and non-turbo versions as the turbo version is higher torque rated.
Effectively GT is leaving the manual valve that linkage moves in its D position and then having a way to tell TCM to give you selectable gear ratio via the sensors detecting lever in forward or rearward position when a change is desired by driver.

For whatever reason he didn't complete the thread here, but started a new one.850TurboTurtle wrote: ↑21 Apr 2017, 14:13So what did you discover when you did the work on this tranny? I just bought an S80 with one and want to baby it along for long life.
