Hi,
I have a VOLVO s70 1998 2.5 petrol with the battery going flat. I had the battery and the alternator checked and they are ok. If I jump start the car it starts ok but is flat in the morning. Any ideas what could be causing this drain. Thanks

It seems obvious you have a draw, you or someone who knows how, needs to start checking everything.
Start with the hidden lights, the glovebox and trunk lights. Also check the interior lights and switches, switch them all off for now.
If not one of those, then ALL the circuits need to be tested one by one at the fusebox for a draw.
You also need to check the battery CABLES to check If it's fully charging.

Years ago it was the glovebox light not shutting off on our 854T. But it took about 2 days to go dead.
The problem was the glovebox door no longer pushed the switch plunger far enough due to normal wear and tear.
I added a felt tab to the glovebox door where it hits the switch plunger and all was well again.

Check that you have the right battery type as the charging system on many vehicles now requres a calcium type battery.
Had the symptoms you descibe exactly, last week on the wifes Daihatsu Sirion 2005.
Jump started fine and no alternator failure warning light showing. all lights, radio, fan etc worked but not the starter.
Charged the battery also but same results.
Eventually had battery tested and it had a dead cell at 13 months old. Never ever gone flat previously and car garaged. (it still even looked brand new)
Exide battery tech' said wrong battery had been selected and fitted in error.
A lead acid type was installed instead of a calcium type as the vehicle was designed to have resulting in a very gradual decline until the cell in the battery failed.
Newer vehicles because of the additional accessories and equipment are designed to require a fully sealed calcium-calcium battery, as evidenced by the new vehicles coming from Europe and Asia. Holden is also releasing its new models with fully sealed calcium-calcium batteries. Moreover, the charging system in these vehicles are designed to charge calcium-calcium batteries and at times will boil a below specification conventional antimonial battery.
Your vehicle being a 98 may be currently fitted with a calcium type whereas it possibly (VERIFY) should have a lead acid type, the reverse situation which I was informed has the same overall result after a period of time.
