Lately my cars been acting stupid. When you start it . It will start up and run but if its kinda cold or raining it acts like its missing. Then if you rev up the engine a few times it usually straightens out.
Well today it did that and it only straightened out for a min. The more I drove it the worse it got. Till it was barely runniing. It ended up dying on me and left me stranded. My husband checked the codes and it gave 214. My book isn't correct and cannot figure out what that is.
Also from past expereince with the wireing issues we did some checking of connectors and found one in the back of the engine, right behind the valve cover that was very very wet. We cannot firgure out what that is or what it goes to. If someone could please help us out I would be very VERY thankful.
I just recently got a job last week after being out of work for 3 yrs. I REALLY need my car right now. PLEASE HELP!
90 240 dl wont run

Code 2-1-4: RPM sensor signal intermittently missing
That wire in the back of the engine is most likely the Crank Position Sensor (CPS). Usually the wire will corrode near the connection to the sensor (right on top of the transmission). Wiggle the wire a bit while trying to start the car - you might be able to get it started and limp home (if the CPS is the issue). If you have the car running, wiggle the wire and see if it stalls out.
Here is a post from Turbobricks for more pictures, information and a diagnosis that sounds very similar to your situation. Stand on the passenger side and follow the wire down behind the valve cover, and you will see the sensor.
I have swapped out a few of them, and its not difficult. All you need is a 10mm wrench or 1/4" socket with a bunch of wobble extensions. But, be very careful when removing the old sensor. Spray some Kroil or PB blaster on it to prevent it from breaking into pieces. If anything falls in the hole, you will most likely need to pull the transmission.

Mtd240 it was the crank sensor.. the insulation on the wire was so cracked and disinergrated it had filled the harness on the crank sensor end up with water and killed it. We got a new one annd took your advice with the pb blaster and had it fixed in a matter of minutes. You and the other experts are such life savers here on this site. I am so greatful for all that everyone does here. All the help this site gives to people like me . Thankyou and thankyou to the volvo forum because without it my husband would've scrapped our.
