1994 850T Thoughts on fuel pump and fuel regulator longevi

Post by cBobs94850T »

Starting to have a bit of trouble starting and driving the old girl. I can hear the F/P run in key position 2 so I know that it's functioning. However last night coming onto the highway ( at about 60mph) I pressed on the accerator and nothing, tryed again and it felt like it wasn't getting any additional fuel. So thinking about replacing the pump and regulator as P/M. And I was wondering how long do they normally last. Any thoughts. (20 year old car with 189000 miles original F/P and F/R) Thanks

I'd give a shot at changing the fuel filter first if this is only occurring at highway speeds when fuel flow demands might be highest. Change it anyway if you do the pump and regulator.

I have an original pump in my '94 at 280ish thousand miles. There really isn't an expected lifespan and it largely depends on the owners fueling habits. The fuel actually cools the motor and the pumps last much longer if you refill the tank at about 1/4 or higher. If the fuel routinely runs to near empty the life of the pump will be less. You most certainly know when it is bad though.

The fuel pressure regulator rarely fails but when it does the standard failure is for the diaphragm to rupture and then it sucks raw fuel into the intake manifold. They typically don't fail in such a way where the fuel pressure changes.

Your problem sounds more like an intercooler hose that is leaking.

Have you pulled any codes from port A-2?

1+,

The #1 cause of fuel pump failure is from owners running the fuel tank dry, as the fuel pump sits at the bottom of the tank and needs fuel to cool it off. This is why I never allow my tank to go below 3-4 gallons.

However, if you read the internet, the average lifespan is anywhere between 150K-250K.

If you decide to replace the fuel pump, then look for Bosch 69693, which is OEM for about $90.

The stock BOSCH fuel pump in my 94 850T probably have 300k before I upgrade to a Deatschwerks DW200 since the it was out anyways. It's probably still good.

to continue this I checked the intercooler hose and did not readily see and issue. Found a cracked elbo at the vacuum tree and repaired that. decided to clean the IAC ( it was quite dirty ) replaced everthing and the car idled beautfully. Took it for a run, drove well on street and on to the highway. As I gave it gas off the trap nothing the car would not accelerate. then it felt like it dumped a ton of gas and the rpms shot to 2500 did this a couple on times, decided to get off high way and car stalled. restarted and was able to get it home would, not go above 40 mph. Pulled codes 241 EGR sys flow malfunction, 414 boost Pressure Regulator too high and 121 MAF sensor signal. Cleared the codes restarted and run like s---. checked codes again and have 414 only thought please
