01 S60 T5 Rusty Cylinder Walls

Post by Greg Sands »

Hello everyone.
I blew my head gasket about two months ago, and had the car sit in my backyard until i had enough money to deal with the problem.
Now that i have the head off, the walls look all rusty, what do i do?

600 or higher, no coarser than 600!, wet n dry sandpaper wetted with WD40. None of that looks fatal.

Scotchbrite pad would work also.

Would it be wise for me to just turn the engine until the piston is in its lowest position and scrub the horrid rust away, or am I going to have to pull the pistons out ?

Turn engine to get the one you're working on to bottom dead center and clean it up.

Alright, well I've cleaned the rust up a bit, looks fine. Do I just lube up the cams with regular oil or is there something more appropriate?
Thanks.
