2002 V70 XC Gas leak

WE have a 2002 V70 XC that has a gas leak on top of the tank. I saw the posts on the 98 model and they were a great help. Does any one have any advice on pulling the rear axles? Seem to be hard to find manuals for the particular version of the car. I want to drop the rear differential in order to access the gas tank and replace the damaged lines. Mike

Are you sure it’s the hoses? There was a problem with the fuel pumps on these, leading to a recall. A fuel leak is one of the possible symptoms:

Remedy:
DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FUEL PUMP INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE, AND IF NECESSARY REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP WITH A PART OF A MODIFIED DESIGN. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON JANUARY 15, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VOLVO AT 1-800-458-1552.

I got same car. Fuel leak coming from top center of tank. It wont start if it gets under ¼ tank. And it runs rough now since i broke a small chip off of a red injector washer when i did the pcv job. I checked the fuel pump and nothing wrong there. Is the reason it runs bad cause of a small air/vacume leak at the injector with the cracked washer?

Assuming the XC70 is configured like the S60, I would start by pulling the rear seat cushion and check under the access holes for leaks.

If you do need a new pump, I recommend you get the lock ring tool.
