1993 850 door and rear shelf speaker wiring - where is it?

Post by Guest »

Hello from a newbie, the owner of a recently-acquired 1993 850 GLT.

The car was originally fitted with the crummy dashboard speakers only, so I've added six other speakers. The speakers connect nicely to the ready-made wiring. The problem is, I cannot find the "radio end" of the wiring. I've been searching behind the radio, removed the glovebox, peeked underneath the instrument panel - nothing.

I've got an adapter wire set that connects ISO to Volvo 850 (-1993 models), which has two large-ish (well, larger than those shown in the drawing elsewhere on this site, which assumedly are from 1994 and later models) connectors that are about 5 cm/2" wide.

There's only one connector behind the radio, and that is the one with the power/antenna/etc wires and the aforementioned dashboard speakers. The other, which has the connectors for the door and shelf speakers, is missing.

(As a tedious workaround, I could tap into the multipole connector blocks inside each end of the dashboard where the speaker wires pass through, but it would be a LOT more convenient just to plug and play.)

So, does anyone here with a similar car been able to locate the other connector as well? The adapter wire set might provide a hint: the bunch of wires to the speaker connector is some half a meter longer than the other.

Thanks a lot!
