'00 v70r ngk or oem spark plugs

Post by brickhead »

Good evening everyboody.

Lately i've been experiencing poor running issues from my car like cylinder misfires. Checked and swapped coil around. Keep getting misfire faults. Cant remember when i switched from running oem plugs to ngk plugs but it seems that my car has been running like *hit ever since. Im going back to oem plugs. Is it just me?

Thoughts?

Thx.

Welcome to MVS.
It seems that on Volvo's the factory plug works best. Most are Bosch so money can be saved by buying them as Bosch instead of Volvo branded Bosch.

Your car uses the standard Bosch FR7DPP+. I found them cheapest at Rock Auto but they are listed as FR7DPP.

Volvo turbo motors "in my opinion" need new plugs every 15K for consistent top performance(especially when modified) or 30K for regular service intervals. That being said we just changed a set that went 80K and just started to misfire. Only problem with leaving them in a long time is it works the coil a little harder and fuel mileage drops a little. Great prices on Mahle filters right now at rock auto. If you ahve had an air filter in 30K or a fuel filter in 80-100K then its a great time to get one.

I like FCP - our sponsor above as well. Just odd that the case of FR7DPP+ plugs came in this evening.

If you need them tomorrow - O'Riellys carries them.

I thought the volvo plugs were different. They say made in England and look a bit different

Please !!!
Post a pic so we can see. I have checked all the variants I could find and found the exact Bosch plug (2 year project). If you have a Volvo plug that looks different ( and it was the stock plug or stock replacement) please post it up so I can see. I have only found 1 variant so far and when talking to Volvo it was a case where the wrong plug was used as it was "acceptable" replacement when stock was out on the correct plug.

Reminder- Not all factory plugs were Bosch (most were but not all). I am only suggesting a Bosch(Volvo) to Bosch(Bosch) usage when the plugs are the exact same but cheaper.

I would use the OE Bosch. If you go ngk, denso, acdelco, etc, change them after 20k. I used some (don't remember the brand) platinum plugs and they weren't very efficient for my specific application.
