98 V70 FWD acts like its in neutral

Post by cwcwise »

I'm way new to Volvo. This issue has me worried and puzzled. My 98 V70 fwd auto.....after I have driven for about 1 mile or so, comes "out of gear" and will not continue to move forward. I can turn the car off, restart it, and can make for about another 2 blocks and it happens again. There is no winter arrow, no check engine light, but I did notice a whine now. I've had car for a bit, and was told the PNP switch was going out, but in the midst of waiting for the part, this happened. The fluid is dirty, I'm sure a flush would be in order, but will this save anything? If a replacement trans is in order, which transmissions can i use? Living in Ohio, does not give me a lot of options, b/c I don't/won't drive a GM vehicle. Any help would be appreciated

Erie Volvo isn't too far if you do need a transmission.

I thought PNP trouble usually give you no-starts rather than transmission drive trouble, but I'm a stick shift guy with limited slips in my closet.

Just looked at Erie Vo-Vo, lol! They have a couple transmissions listed. Now is there a drivetrain I am stuck to, or are there options that could/would be more viable or stronger?

I'll let the experts chime in on your transmission options. You are lucky I like Arby's, so I knew Erie was close

It's in NY so its not too bad, its about $200 to have tranny shipped. I figure about $800 bucks, so i don't think i can go wrong.
