1984 240 Strange A/C problem
Hello, I have an 84 240 with the b23f and im having trouble tracking down why my A/C isnt working. This was the last year of the b23f and im not finding a lot about it. My compressor kicks on when i turn the knob but shortly after blows the 8a fuse. When it does stay on long enough, it only blows like the heater is maxed and never gets cool. It is the original compressor that was converted to 134 from r12. Maybe heater control valve, maybe a high or low pressure switch? Im not sure. Any help would be fantastic. Thanks.

It sounds like you have at least two separate problems.
With the fuse: perhaps your compressor clutch is drawing too much power, they do that if the coil is bad, or if there is excessive gap in the clutch. I don't know if the blower is also on that fuse, but they are notorious for failing.
The temperature problem could be a number of things: stuck temp select door, discharged system, worn out compressor, blocked TVX.
Find the electrical issue first.

There is a AC-clutch, relay, and schematic shows electric fan setup, so you can sort these out.
Run fan switch without AC, do vents put out hot air? If so, your water valve is not working.
One needs set of R-12 gauges to evaluate, but one can see/feel on low pressure hose near compressor if it gets cold/cool when running AC.
It's best to use a fan to blow across radiator/condenser when testing vehicle at home. Air needs to be moving across radiator/condenser.
Also, with 1984 vehicle, I would not run AC unless vehicle was moving down a highway. In town, without new radiator, fan clutch, and making sure electric fan works (if applicable), you chance blowing a head gasket on a hot day.
Fuses
12 Back-up lights, Relay, window lifts, Heated driver's seat, Air conditioning, Heater fan, Relay rear window demist
But, schematic shows fuse #3 for AC, but schematic shows relay is powered via fuse 12. I don't have time to trace, but look at fuses wiring color(s), and then look to a device. For instance, fuse 3, wht/blk does go to fan switch
Using a amp gauge does help
