I put a new battery in my '96 850 and therefore reset the stereo...I was mistaken about the security code, entered the wrong one too many times and ended up with the word "OFF" on the stereo display. I've since received the correct code from the car's last owner. I called the local Volvo dealer -- they told me to put the key in the ignition and turn it to the first click. After 2 hours, they told me, "CODE" would reappear on the stereo display. Unfortunately, I didn't think about this too hard. I tried it, but nothing happened but my car battery dying.
Was this the absolute wrong thing to do?
Or was it explained incorrectly?
Or are batteries supposed to be able to withstand this? (My new battery has already lost charge once, despite no evident draw and no problems with my alternator/charging system...)
Any thoughts or quick fixes for after I get my battery jumped? Any help would be really appreciated.

You did the right thing...maybe had some other lights on in the car too....fan running, etc. You need to charge your battery, or while it's on a charger, try again. You'll get it and once you drive your car around awhile your battery should be fine, unless you had a battery that was dying to begin with.
