Faulty thermostat, temperature sensor or possibly a blown head gasket?

Trapped air can cause issues but if the system was burped properly it should be okay.
Excess air should work its way up to the coolant reservoir so if you start the engine (cold) with the coolant reservoir cap off any air should get up to the coolant tank. (you may see some bubbling)
If bubbling continues constantly then its possibly a failed head gasket.
The trapped air may not be expelled fully until the engine temp rises sufficiently to open the thermostat allowing water to circulate the system fully.
Gently squeezing the radiator hoses a few times also helps to move air along if any is trapped.
It's highly possible that the thermostat or the temp' sensor, if faulty may be the cause of the high pressure.
Is the temp' gauge moving up towards the red?
