Hi guys,
I have a very specific question for all of you.
I have Bad Swedes 2" lift springs installed on my XC70, during my first install I did not use the plastic "isolators" on the bottom of the front coils; needless to say, the springs had a nasty squeak between the metal spring and the bottom of the strut where the spring rests in. I installed the isolator and it cured this problem 100%.
Fast forward one year and I have had a recurring squeak in one of the rear springs. I installed the isolator and it cured the problem for about 1000KM and then starting happening again just as bad.
I am leaning towards there being a problem with the placement of the lower end of the spring relative to the lower "strut stop." I installed the squeaky spring with it touching the edge of the "strut stop;" whereas I recall the non-squeaky coil spring on the other side of the car I had issues with lining up the top rubber mount correctly so it required me to put some torque on the lower strut bushing to install the assembly; this resulted in the the very end of the lower part of the spring pushing hard into the "strut stop" at the base of the strut; there has been zero noise issues with the side that was pre-loaded.
Am I on the right track here? Should I consider twisting the top rubber spring seat in the strut so that it will make the spring exert rotational force on the lower "strut stop?"
Any other ideas would also be appreciated, I apologize for my lack of clarity in describing my thought process. I have attached a picture so you better understand what I mean by lower "strut stop"
Thanks a lot!
Jesse
