S70 LPT power gain

Post by S70LPT »

hi.

im newbie. the engine is B5204T4 in S70-2.0 LPT producing only 163bhp.

can i safely add about 20bhp with all original factory parts? im on budget.

what the best way? simply dial up the boost from the factory LPT TD04 or upgrade to a bigger variant of TD04? don't plan for extreme mods because don't want to risk the reliability. just need some extra power. it always nice to have bigger bhp&torque...but i need to balance between extra power, reliability & fuel economy.

by adding 20bhp, do u think the stock injectors, fuel pump, ecu, pistons, gasket , stock exhaust with catalytic converter and intercooler can handle the additional power?

my plan just upboost/upgrade to slightly bigger turbo,K&N air filter & cold air intake only.

thank u

Reliability and low-cost are enemies of each other in the horsepower race.

By that I mean you can have reliability, low-cost, or big hp increase. Pick any two.

An example of that is

a manual boost control:

vs. a chip:

that, and scroll down a little to "Manual Boost Control..."

matthew..

i find that horn relocation is popular mods. will this give greater flow to the intercooler?

all in stock now. just plan to do the horn relocation and K&N or Pipercross drop in air filter...any noticebale response with the performance air filter?

You'd have to have some pretty sensitive testing equipment to measure the gains from a K&N or horn relocation.

They're going to give you a few hp extra. When measured against a stock engine, that's maybe 2-3% difference. Environmental factors cause bigger differences than that.

They're not going to be the difference in any street races you'll find yourself in. :?

Short answer to will they give you more hp? Yes.

What's equally or more important IMHO is they give you the confidence that your engine is giving you its best in any given situation. Assuming you have everything tuned up, best gasoline, injectors clean, etc.

thank matthew

a question regards to intercooler. i can say the surface area is large enough, but why it's thin ? comparing to japanese turbo car like wrx or evo..the surface area are large and they are thick.

does this mean in 2.0 LPT/low boost application, surface area that expose to direct air is more important than thickness? eventhough it's thin, most ppl say volvo intercooler is very efficient.

thank u
