'99 V70 No directionals, no headlights, no dash illumination

The directionals, headlights and dash illumination stopped working suddenly on the wife's '99 V70.

I tried the emergency flashers and all the directional bulbs lit up -- all four corners. I didn't try the high beams, but the low beam headlights are out. No bulb failure warning light illuminated on the dash, but then again, all dash illumination is out.

Any suggestions as to what could be wrong?

The car is FWD, base model, non-turbo, auto trans.

+1 on the ignition switch - jiggling the key in the ignition may fix it until you can get the new part in.
