01 volvo s60 t5 oil additive
Hello i wanted to add some oil additive to my oil, like sea foam, or marvel mystery oil. I bought the car with 164,000, so i just wanted to clean out the engine. I already put some seafoam in my gas, i was just worried to put it in my oil because of the turbo, i have like 171,000 miles write now. So my question is if i put it in my oil will it mess anything up, Because i noticed when i start my car for the first 5 seconds it sounds rough. So i am just wanting to clean my engine out.

Tapping sound right after start is pretty "normal" for these engines. You can remove/clean VVT solenoid (have a new gasket ready) and inspect how bad things are in regard to gunk. If it's extremely dirty I wouldn't dare to free all this gunk at once.
Use high quality synthetic oil, change it often first few times, it will clean engine out over time.

I am not a fan of additives in oil. The additive just dilutes and thins a quality oil. I have used marvel adding 6 - 12 ounces a few hundred miles before an oil change. I use Mobil 1 and Pennzoil Platinum in 5w-30. Change the oil filter with every oil change. Look at the filter for sludge and be sure to clean the oil filter housing. You don't want sludge to be so loosened as to clog the oil pump screen. Slow cleaning with a quality oil and frequent changes 3500 to 5000 miles.

I just replaced the cvvt solenoid, with a used one from ebay. I use mobile 1 high mileage full synthetic 10w-30, in my car this time, i bought valvoline because there was a special on it. But that is the only time, I do a oil change every 4500 miles, But i checked my oil because i had to get a new dip stick because it was broken. But it was low so i added a quart of oil in it, and i am only in a oil change about 1000 miles. Is it supposed to burn oil like that. it was parked for like a week and a half because it was sputtering and the exhaust was strong, but i found what it was it was a hole in the turbo hose replaced the hose and runs great now. So maby that is why it alot of oil.

A SEAFOAM treatment (or two) will clean out your engine, general oil additives will not
Do that first, $10 and 15-20 minutes of your time
Read the directions on the can then (you must) change the oil about 50-100 miles after treatment

Ok i will do that, and i was wanting to know why my oil gets dirty fast.
I second the "no additive required" opinion, if you do not have any imediate problems, similar to transmission flushes, solid deposits broken loose can cause clogging & the procedure can do more harm than good in extreme cases.
Are you familiar with the PCV system, have you inspected yours or at least done the glove test?
Oils contain detergents, if your oil gets black it means the detergents are doing their job & soot & other contaminents are carried in the oil & with that ultimately removed from the engine, if oil stays clean forever it means the dirt is depositing in the engine & you should change to a better oil.
