99 V70 Ignition Switch Stuck

Post by JeffHicks »

This is weird. Out of the blue, the key will not "unlock" the ignition switch and allow me to start the car. No warning of any kind - in fact, I was driving the car earlier today. It hasn't been sticky, hard to turn, anything. But all of the sudden it acts like I have the wrong key in it.

Any guesses?

Try to start it in neutral.

I cannot do that. The key will not turn in the ignition.

Start with a shot of WD40 into the key slot.
Run the key in and out a few times to loosen
things up and try again.

Is this an auto or manual transmission car?

Got the job done guys. Got "creative" with the cylinder & barrel.

I did the entire removal - including steering wheel - which turned out to be far less troublesome than I anticipated. Everything is re-assembled, and we're back in business.

The one thing I'm a bit puzzled by is that my "SRS" light on the dashboard stays on now. I know I got the air-bag connector reattached properly, and everything else is operating as before. But that light is on.

Any guesses?

My guess is that you isn't disconnect the
battery before disconnecting the airbag.
You'll need a dealer level programming
unit to reset the SRS diagnostics.
And your bags won't fire until then.

The battery was disconnected. Learned to do that the hard way, about 25 years ago.
