V70 Driver's seat -- upholstery fabric

Post by bill d cat »

I drive a 1998 V70 -- and I am trying to replace the seat bottom upholstery.

The fabric is "beige velour" and the interior/upholstery code is 3450. I think this upholstery was used on 850s as well as 1998 SVC 70s.

Unfortunately the part I need, the seat bottom, is NLA from Volvo. I have been searching on eBay -- but most of the seats I see in the beige velour fabric are in worse shape than the seats in my car.

Does anyone have any thoughts as to a source, or even a source for just the fabric, or fabric with a close approximation of the pattern?

Thanks!

(I apologize that I don't have a photo of only the seat -- but I think the fabric pattern is visible.)

Welcome to the forum, Bill. Looks like you have been lurking for quite a while now. :D

We have this upholstery in our 98 S70 although it always looked grey to me. It's a problem not just matching the color but the texture is rather unique. If you are unable to get the exact fabric, here are some thoughts.

For the driver's seat bottom, my wife has carefully re-sewn by hand some splits in the seams. A small hole developed in the left seat-back panel about mid way up. We took a patch from the back side of the fold down center armrest in the back seat. The entire roughly 6"x11" could be used if necessary. We have plans to cover this hidden "borrowed" piece with some similar fabric if and when we come upon any. The result is we have no voids in any of the seats.

Something good about this fabric is that it must be 100% nylon because it doesn't seem to degrade in appearance, but just gives way in places. In looking at these 16y.o. cars for sale online, we count ourselves lucky to have one with the far more durable cloth interior, judging by all the cracked and split leather seating to be found. I have replaced the leather front seat upholstery once already in my 850 and the car will possibly outlast the second covers. At present, the S70 interior looks in better shape than the 850.

Good luck in your search, and if you find a source, please post back. I would like to have a couple of yards for the future.
