2000 XC70 parking brake cable removal

Post by DrJammer »

So I am elbow deep in an e-brake cable replacement. How do I get the end of the cable off the actuator right and then how to get the old cable out? I have read so many threads and I got as close as this:
The new cable should have a piece on the end that looks like the lower left piece on the picture. You can see where the old cable was cut or wore out. You need to drive out the pin that holds the cable end to the actuator, then connect the new cable end. The pin should slide out and back in fairly easily. When it's in position, it is held together by being inside the larger part of the actuator. After connecting the new cable, check to make sure the actuator parts move together easily. The part of the actuator that connects to the cable should move through the other part until about 1/2 inch of it is sticking out thru the other part.

Do I need a special tool to get the pin out? There is not much room to get behind the hub. I will try to get a pic shortly

Edited to remove junk photos. I figured the e brake cables and brake shoes out. Hope to never have to do it again.
