My EVAP purge valve was replaced with a Dorman brand valve about 6 months ago. It is failing and staying "open" (I can blow through it). The gas tank is under negative pressure and I have to relieve it by opening gas cap.
I've had some luck spraying the valve with MAF sensor cleaner (or carb cleaner). It closes up again and all seems well...
Why does the valve get stuck open? Is the charcoal canister filthy?! Is it replacable?
(Maybe 495,000 km on the car might have something to do with it....?!)

The valve gets stuck because it is a cheap part. I had a Dorman valve fail within three months of installation. A Bosch or Pierburg valve is a better investment.
