2001 S60 Dents, Scratches, and Tears

Post by WarbirdPilot91 »

Hello Gang,

In my quest to refurb my recently bought used S60, I am seeking some interior/exterior body help. Below are some pics with descriptions/ideas. I've heard the heat gun/dry ice thing may work. Any insight or tips you could give would be AWESOME. Thanks, all! :)

Image
Dent on rear drivers door. Right where the curve starts.

Image
Dime/Penny sized dings along both sides, some with minor scratches in them.

Image
Scuff of plastic rear bumper, behind rear wheel.

Image
Deep scratches on rear pax door.

Image
Was de-badged (looks like some cheesy logo was slapped on these.) Buff?

Rear door fabric de-laminating from door panel. Spray glue?

Heat gun/dry ice trick works only on Japanese foil-made cars. Volvo is a main battle tank of the roads, a drakkar, one solid piece of metal, whose fate in the event of crash is to kill everyone around and save lives of those inside. Our fathers told us that at the end of time - Ragnarök - Naglfar ship will sail to Vigrid, and it will be shaped as a 850 wagon. It is extremely hard to get rid of a dent even with straight access to it through the hole under interior panel. Check that out:

If avoiding the dent specialist is a goal, I'd live with the dents, use touch paint to hide light scratches and clear coat for heavier ones, then clean the whole car thoroughly, dry and apply Turtle Wax Shell, twice. In fact, that's what I do every year, before winter, with wife's aging V70.

First a good wash and degrease. I use palmolive dish cleaner that strips all wax off. Tiny scratches I use a pointy brush - art supply store - and clear to go along the scratch. Deep scratches I try to build up layers of paint then wet sand and buff. May still be visible when done. Emblem on hood - wet sand with 1000, 2000, 3000 then buff. I use McGwyar cutting compound 85 grit and a cheap buffer from Harbor Freight. The clear on Volvo responded well to this, but it takes several passes. I used the wool bonnet and foam pads that I had fron another kit. Problem is the touch up paint is a few shades darker due to car discoloration. Scratches showed on mine.

AWESOME info, thanks a ton! The little dings, I can live with. But, the big ones gotta go. I will try the plunger technique, and if that fails, I'll find a dent guy.

I DID manage to fix the rear-doors fabric! 8) Little spray glue and plastic vinyl applicator did the trick!
