2001 S-40 W light flashing and Check Engine light on?

Post by gbtr6 »

Hi,

I live in WI and our S-40 got stuck in the snow. Tried to drive it out and couldn't. Eventually dug out, but now the W light flashes and the check engine light is on. Looked in the manual and it says could be from transmission overheat. Can I just reset it? Everything else seems fine. Also, I like the Service light reset. I know I need to change the oil, it's overdue and I imagine that's why tha light comes on. It goes out after a bit. Any help on this other problem would be great.

same thing happened to me a few days ago...got stuck in the snow. I had the flashing arrow and check engine light showing. I drove it around for two days, and nothing cleared it.

when i had the car in the driveway, i moved the gear shift between D and L about 10-15 times semi-fast. The next time i started the car, the blinking arrow was off. The check engine light is still on though. I'm going to take it in for its 60,000 mile service tomorrow, and i'll see if anything else is wrong with it.

You will want to take it into the shop. I had the same exact problem (probably the same snow storm!). I got stuck as well in the snow. When I took my car into my repair shop (not the stealer/dealer) we found that the underside of the car was completely packed with snow and ice. They let the snow and ice melt and reset the light and it did not come back on. You probably just overheated the tranny, but you should have it checked out to make sure there is no serious damage.
