1996 850 GLT Fuel Filter Connector

In the process of removing the old fuel filter, the connector from the hose to the filter snapped off. Is the connector replaceable or do I need to have the whole fuel hose replaced? This is the hose toward the front of the car. Thank you.

If you want the same connector, you have to replace the whole hose.

I would be comfortable cutting off the connector and inserting a short section of thick-walled fuel hose that covered a lot of the driver's side hose and was clamped well. Hopefully the hose is a similar diameter to the nipple on the fuel filter, or you could use a barbed connector? I have never replaced that factory hose but it could be an unpleasant and expensive way to go.

erikv11 - I like that idea. The connector came clean off. So you are saying add a piece of hose that fits over the fuel filter connector and goes on the inside? outside? of the existing hose? Sorry, this is a little new to me. I've replaced the fuel filter before but never done any fuel hose makeshift work.

It looks like a barbed connector would join the two pieces of hose? Is that correct?

Is the ID of the car hose compatable with the nipples of the fuel filter? If so slide it on and use a clamp.

Kahl - no, the ID (I assume interior diameter) is smaller than the fuel filter nipple. In addition, the hose is too short (as is the other side). The connector is about an inch long and needed to secure the filter in place.

I don't know the diameters involved but maybe as per your post, maybe something like this:
Fuel filter nipple - new piece of hose - barbed connector - old hose in the car
You can even clip off a little more of the line in the car if you really need to, to fit in a new section of hose.

I was originally thinking:
Fuel filter nipple - new piece of hose - hose slides over the old hose in the car
but likely that won't work.

Oh, with clamps too.

erikv11 - Thank you. That helps a lot. I like the idea of fitting hose to the filter and using the barbed connector to link it to the existing hose. Seems like the key is finding a barbed connector that fits both ends.

You're welcome, hope it works out for you. You can even but a barbed connector with two different sizes. Maybe cut off just like 1/4 inch of the hose and take both the hose piece and the fuel filter with you to find the right parts?

erikv11 - I tried to cut off a bit of hose but it is steel wrapped in rubber. I am sure there is a tool that can make a quick cut but I don't think I own it. I'll have to eyeball it and explain what I have at the parts store.
