To all,
I am trying to locate a 1993 MAF sensor for my car. The local Volvo part counter states they can no longer get this part. My car has the sensor attaches to the tubing that is part of the air box and not that separate part like the newer models have. I have been thinking about getting one from a salvage yard but how does one test to see it works before buying it with no return.
Also I am wondering if a dirty MAF would also cause the code to be trip? If so what MAF cleaner has most of you has had good luck with?

A junk yard MAF is a hit or miss proposition and, as you pointed out, most of them won't take returns on electrical items. I'll need to look but I though the MAF was the same for the '93 / '94 NA models and they are readily available from places like FCP or even chain stores. They are more expensive than the versions that were hooked up to the Motronic ECUs.
If you buy from a local parts store try to stick with a new (not re-manufactured) part and it should be a Bosch brand.
MAF cleaner is always worth a try since it is only a few dollars vs $150.00+ for the sensor itself. I've always used CRC brand that I think I get from Advance Auto Parts - that is the closest store to me.
If you try to clean it just spray the sensor and let it dry. Don't scrub it, dry it, or even touch it.
