Interesting tire info

This I found interesting. When speaking with my Insurance agent here in NY (Liberty Mutual) about Volvos, I mentioned that was in the market for new tires. He, being a 'car guy', was interested. When I mentioned the recommendation to go from 215/60/17 to 225/55/17, he warned against it. He said that, in his experience (35 years), there have been denial of claims due to vehicles equipted with 'non-factory speced' equiptment. He grabbed my owners manual and pointed out that it (and the door label) did not indicate the use of 225/55/17. He highly recommended that I stick with the 215/60's. His senero was : "So, you get in a serious collision, someone is hurt, car badly damaged. Insurance company looks at the car, non-speced tire size...Done, over".
Now, this is one agent's opinion...but he was quite adamant about it.
So, since I was going to get the Conti DWS's, I now have to switch the choice...are the Altimax the reasonable choice (I wanted it all...all season, comfortable and handling). I'm going to share this info elsewhere...

As part of the insurance industry I'll tell you we are dirt-bags. We'll happily take your premium, raise your rates on a whim, "suggest" you use crap chinese parts to fix your car and then deny your claim because your glove compartment light was non-functional.
