1993 Volvo 850 Massive Oil Leak

Post by fearturtle03 »

I have had a small oil leak for the past 6 months and thought it was just due to the fact the car has about 250,000 miles. However a few days ago it became rather massive(about a quart a day). The top of the valve cover is cracked, but has been that way for alomst 2 years. The oil is covering the top of the engine and also when I remove the oil cap, there seems to be alot of pressure that is released. I have read some posts about the PVC box, but wasnt sure if this would be the cause. I need help quickly as I am spending 5 bucks a day on oil. Thank you

Your valve cover is cracked?

I'd say that your best bet would be to do the PCV service (tons of info on it here) and replace that valve cover... it sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

Correct me if i am wrong, but isnt the main valve cover just for viewing pleasure only?

Let's clarify real quick :) . By valve cover, are you talking about the plastic spark plug cover or the aluminum cover that covers the cams, head bolts, etc.?
