1998 V70 T5 Exhaust smoke after replacing hoses etc.

Post by Conrad Birdie »

I am wondering what I might have done wrong after replacing the vacuum lines on the turbo, I also replaced the three contacts inside the pnp switch and generally cleaned the tranny area as well as all of the turbo hoses inside, which just had a bit of oil residue. The turbo itself had quite a lot of accumulated dirt and oil on the outside leaving that thick black substance so when I put everything back together and started the car there was plenty of wd40 and Varsol residue burning off but when the engine warmed up it was smoking fairly well out the tail pipe, something it only did very little, usually on start up after being left for a day or so. Just got the car, mileage at 432,000 km so I wonder, did I mix up one of the pcv lines perhaps? I only disconnected the ones at the nipple near the turbo attached to the intake pipe when I removed it plus replacing the turbo cbv, waste gate and pressure line to the engine. I was going to do an oil change and take it for a drive - is it possible sitting for three weeks also may be a factor? Any help is always appreciated!
