How do I tell if motor mount is needing replacement?

Rubber is cracked. Or ask you buddy to push pedal gently and see if the mount can hold the engine without showing any gaps or even touching metal.

Thanks I will give that a try, rubber is not cracked but it does seem loose when I push it back and forth.
There are gaps between rubber and metal.
