1998 S70 T5 Where is the crash sensor located

Post by Sergio_F »

Hi,
I just removed the center console of my 98 s70 t5 manual transmission, and I expected to find the crash sensor visible but did not see it. I got a used Volvo replacement Bosch 9459151. Here are a couple of pictures with the center console removed. Is it under the plastic cover in the picture of the back of the shifter?

It is under the black plastic case that is just below the two white connectors on the second picture.

Lee,
You are right. Thanks. I was not sure and did not want to keep taking things apart.

I followed the advice here to disconnect the battery and wait for the capacitors to discharge and then replaced the unit.
I bought the replacement part in ebay for under $ 50. Took probably 3 hrs because I did not know where all the screws were.
I had taken the car to a dealer, who diagnosed a faulty crash sensor.
Their estimate was over $1200 to replace it. However they were nice enough to give me the correct part number.
After putting all things back, the car seat heaters work, as the power outlet and the SRS light is off.
