Purge valve hoses - where do they go?

Post by Seaway »

Can someone tell me where the hoses go from the purge valve? One goes to the manifold, but what about the other that leads back towards the firewall? Mine is not connected to anything, though it appears it should be. I am sitting here with a flashlight and the hood up...

I believe it goes back to the fuel tank. - NOT, see below.

Take a couple of photos to give us some perspective of where the hose is in the engine bay. If you are correct and it is the purge valve, then rspi is right it goes all the way back to the fuel tank, then it must have another piece somewhere else nearby. I guessing it may either the wrong pipe or a pipe that should 'T' into another nearby.

I don't think you need photos, this sounds like an easy one: the other one goes to the nipple next to the PTC.

From one end of the purge valve there is a tee with two hoses into the engine bay, they should both have check valves on them. One line goes to the manifold, the other one goes to the snorkel pipe between the MAF and the turbo, and connects to a nipple that is right next to the PCV. That's the one OP is asking about, to the nipple on the snorkel.

There is a third line from the other side of the purge valve. It goes straight down, not so much into the engine bay, that one usually has a short rubber connector to a hard plastic line, and that plastic line goes to the charcoal canister (not the fuel tank!). The canister is either under the front fender or back by the fuel tank, it varies.

This is probably well documented in cn90's vacuum hose thread for turbos, or look at any vacuum line diagram for the turbo cars.

Good one Eric! This is what I thought it might be, but to be sure wanted the photo to be sure.

Ah thanks. I was in the garage trying to search for the answer on my phone and not having much luck. It is the hose to the nipple on the snorkel. Thanks. Hopefully that will help keep the P0455 code at bay.

Got everything plugged back in as it should be and so far no codes or pending codes after a 10 mile commute. I removed the SAS pump and all the associated vacuum lines and hoses (after doing the SAS resistor fix months ago) and I have a new purge valve. I am going to need to replace the hoses associated with the purge valve at some point soon since they are all pretty beat up. I now have all silicone hoses from the TCV to the turbo as well. The rough feel at low rpms seems to be gone as of this morning also. Time will tell.

Thanks for the help.
