1996 850 GLT Engine side oxygen 02 sensor wires

Post by olfac87 »

Twice now the leads from the car to where the front 02 sensor plugs in at the engine have come out (red circle in picture). All four leads look good. I reinserted them once and now they are out again. And the car is throwing P0130 and P0135 codes. I bought a new front 02 sensor to replace (it's 75k miles old and the last one was NOT the OEM one) thinking that was the problem but now I am not so sure. I'll replace it anyway but I have two questions:

1. How do I keep the blue leads in the photo from coming out?
2. Do the leads need to go back into the plug in a certain order?

Thank you.

Short of buying a new connector and splicing it on I don't know what to tell you about keeping the pins installed into the connector body. There should be a barb on the connector pin that locks it into the shell. The order is important with respect to the sensor lines but not for the heater lines.

Sensor=======>Car
White========>Green
White========>Black
Black========>Green/Black
Gray=========>Green/Gray

The white wires are the heater wires and they don't care which is which.

Thank you. On the connectors, I tried them one more time and rotated them more than just 90 degrees after each try. Turns out they all snapped in one by one. Not sure how they came out to begin with. And thank you so much for the mapping. Everything is back together. I just need to clear the codes and see if everything works.
