1994 volvo white smoke, low coolant

Post by daversm »

Im getting white smoke from the hood of the car, I've been getting the smoke for a few days now but I've been neglecting it because of time restrictions. Today the coolant light came on. Should I inspect for visible leaks for coolant? Where should I start with this?

The smoke starts to come after the car is warmed up a bit, and persists even at idle.

I'll inspect the oil the next chance I get.

Could this be the head gasket?

Sounds like water may be hittting the exhaust system on its pathway to the ground. There is a coolant pipe running behind the exhaust manifold made from approx 25mm metal tube. Is this a turbo or non turbo?

Not sure how to respond to this question.

I doubt it's a head gasket issue.

There's a large o ring seal at the end of that water pipe just behind the water pump that may leak though I've only read of one instance. A more likely leak source are the heater hoses and the likelihood of a clamp biting through them.

Also the heater hose coupling at the firewall has small o rings that may begin to leak.
