I'm sure this topic already exists somewhere but in any case I was hoping to get a second opinion before I get my ETM refurbished. I was having all the issues that come along with the ETM malfunctioning, irregular idling and throttle control, sporadic loss of power, etc. I read onlinf that sometimes a cleaning will help these problems. So I took it off and gave it a good scrubbing, which did seem to improve things a bit, and the check engine light was even off for the test drive but soon kicked back on. The problems still persist though, and over the course of a week it seems to have gotten back to the same state it was before I cleaned it. Does that sound indicative of the ETM being the culprit? Also, could unhooking the battery when I took it off for cleaning have temporarily reset my engine error codes or something to that effect? I would appreciate any opinions anyone has. Thanks in advance.

the ETM is shot
did the same exact exercise as you did...same result
check out XeModEx
I did...car is like new again
don't forget new gasket for ETM!
you can go mental trying to get it to work properly...landing in the same place
don't need to update software either
I would do the PCV oil trap while you're farting around in there
give the intake manifold a good cleaning
FCP/IPD sells a kit with all needed
