My 99 s70 t5 has been throwing a flashing arrow and check engine light for a while. I clear it and it comes on again after a little bit of driving. It is throwing p0740 Torque Convertor Clutch Circuit code, as well as the p1618 code. Here are the issues I am having.
Most of the time, the car drives fine, however sometimes, mostly in the morning or first few hours of driving the car there is some rattling (as seen and heard in the video attached). The car also feels as if it is just not smooth, I push on the gas and it goes, but not smoothly. Also I feel as if I must push on the brake hard as the transmission seems to want to push the car faster than a usual idle would. It's just not right. After a while of driving it comes back to normal. Sometimes the flashing arrow stops (but CEL light is still on). Sometimes the arrow is on. The shop I talked to said to take it to AAMCO. I never thought I would have to take my t5 to AAMCO. Has anyone else had an issue with these symptoms? Any ideas on what might be wrong, and what $ I am looking at. I am pretty good at fixing my car, but when it comes to transmissions, yeah…… Not really. Before the flashing arrow came up a while ago I thought I had more of a fuel pump problem as the car would come off the highway early in the morning and shutter, then I would throw it into drive and it would stop, but as you can hear in the video from me shifting from neutral to drive and back.. Definitely a transmission problem as of now. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. I just can't bare to see my t5 go, I have put so much work into this car and at 269k miles, it is in perfect condition. I hear transmission, and immediately I think $.
In the video you can hear me change gears at about 8 seconds, 13 seconds, 20 seconds.

okay, if a TCC solenoid sticks, can it stick in the engaged position? I assume it is spring loaded to disengaged and electrically held engaged. If the bore is dirty, or the solenoid is weak (like 200k+ weak) could the TC be staying engaged causing it to lug like a manual trans? Or staying partially engaged to cause the car to "push" harder than it should at idle?
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

That's a lot of noise. I'm not a tranny guy, but if I were you, I'd start looking for someone that knew what they were doing that can help you change it on the cheap. A guy swapped mine out for $400.

That rattle sounds like a bad input shaft bearing on a manual, rattling when not under load. Don't know if the same would be applicable to an automatic.
Yes. Could be the solenoid itslef, or improper fluid pressure to the solenoid, I'm not sure.okay, if a TCC solenoid sticks, can it stick in the engaged position? Actually, given your other symptoms and some searching, it seems torque converters often make a "death rattle" before they go.
Would be the first I have seen for one of these transmissions though.

Thanks guys. Sometimes it's ok. Today putting it in reverse the car was shuttering like crazy. In neutral it's ok but drive it's shaking and trying to lurk forward hard at stop lights. I'll try and post another video. Thanks for the help!
