Hi All,
Just joined and have been searching past posts for an answer to my question, but I have only come up with more questions so hopefully someone can help me out.
97 850 GLt sedan- my daughter's car - who is now away at school to complicate matters somewhat. Using the remote, all locks lock/unlock the way they should- but the remote has started working intermittently- so she has been using the key. The key on the drivers will lock all the doors, but to unlock will only unlock the drivers doors on the first turn, and not unlock the other doors on the second turn- then upon opening the door the alarm sytem is activated - horn sounding, car no start. I got the remote to work to reset once is she has been driving again.
So she has resorted to not locking the car- when she shuts the driver's door closed- it sounds like something is rattling around inside the door and I am 1100 miles away from her so don't have the access to take it apart.
I read in one post where someone mentioned pulling fuse #6 which would disable the alarm and allow the car to be locked unlocked manually- Is this an option? She really just wants to be able to lock/unlock the car- doesn't care about the electronic functions etc.
She can lock / unlock the trunk without affecting the alarm system. Not sure if this is normal operation or not. I also read about using the passenger door but my concern is that if she gets the alarm system activated, she will be stuck and I am in no postion to help.
I also read about getting a new fob and having programmed- but I am looking for something simple if possible.
Sorry for the long winded post, any and all help is appreciated- thanks in advance.

The alarm can't be disabled by just removing a fuse. It can be bypassed by removing the relay and then installing a jumper wire but that is in the lower electrical center, behind the dashboard on the inside of the car. It likely isn't anything that someone without some car experience could do by trying to describe it over the phone - particularly since you need to be a contortionist to get to the relay panel.
The main locking / alarm failures are usually due to a bad microswitch in the lock assembly and the driver's door is a good place to start since it won't trigger the secondary dead lock.

If im understand correctly.. the key should only unlock the drivers door on the first turn and then all doors on the second turn. When you go to lock with the key, its just one turn and its suppose to locks all doors. As Lee said, id say your problem is in the micro switch in the drivers door.
Have you checked the battery in the remote ? I just purchased a C70 and the remote was working intermittently, I checked the battery and it showed 2.8 volts so I thought it was good. I decided to put another battery in it which showed 3.3 volts and now the remote is working everytime. Its gotta have at least 3 volts to work properly.
If you cant get the remote working properly, you can purchase a universal remote locking system on ebay for very cheap and wire it into your central lock button. I did that with my 96 R because the remote receiver was missing out of the car and I didn't have a remote for it. Took me all of 30 min to hook it up.

My alarm is disabled by removing fuse 6 I believe; this also disables the central locking but the alarm is most certainly disabled as well.Ozark Lee wrote:The alarm can't be disabled by just removing a fuse.

I think the R has one of the Guard alarm systems which is different than the standard alarm. From the schematics on the standard alarm I don't think the relay closure between pins 50E and 50F will be complete and the starter won't engage unless the alarm module has power from fuse 6.
I could be wrong and there isn't any harm in trying it.

I'm usually with keeping it simple and functional.
New battery/remote, then fix the switch in the door.
Back to factory operation and everything works!

Aha, you're probably right about that.Ozark Lee wrote: I think the R has one of the Guard alarm systems which is different than the standard alarm.
