2000 S70 2.4 Accessory Power Delayed at Start

Post by SarcasticBaldGuy »

This started once it got cold, though that may be a coincidence.

When you start the car, the SRS light turns on, flashes once and stays on for 5 - 60+ seconds. During that interval, accessory power is unavailable. The windows, locks, dash lights, radio, a/c blower and sunroof don't operate during this time. Then the SRS light turns off and accessory power is available again.

Anyone know if there is a common relay or other component that ties all of this together?

I saw another post https://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/forums/viewtopic.php?p=348850&sid=1a8bce90bcd6e6fcbc5ae85ffb948755 that suggested a relay 105 (2/30), but assuming that is supposed to be with the other relays under the hood, my car doesn't have the same relay configuration.

Thanks!!

You might not be looking in the right place. I think you have to remove the four torx screws to access these relays.

The overload relay is certainly a possibility , but a much
more common point of failure is the ignition switch.

+1 for key switch, to test, while SRS on power unavailable, jiggle the key, see if that affects it
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

Thanks for the tip. I just bought this car for my daughter a few months ago, so I'm still getting familiar with where things are.

It was the relay. Swapped 105 and 106 and the accessory power was there at start up. Going to order a replacement and call it done.

Thanks for your help!!

Also - thanks to everyone else for the other tips. I did try the key jiggle and it didn't do anything. But if that switch is a common failure point, that's good to know as well.
