1998 S70 Front Cam Seal leak: how to avoid stain on driveway

Post by cn90 »

OK,

I am trying to add some humor to an old problem...

Soon or later your front cam seals will leak. If the leak is minor, a drop here a drop there, and if you don't want any stain on your concrete driveway, place the rags as shown.

Secure them with string or zip ties. They should absorb minor oil leak for a few months, then renew the rags.

Do this until you have time to fix the leak.

PS: Of course if you have a garage, then place cardboard on the garage floor and place some rocks/bricks on the cardboard.

When it comes spending the 3 hours and replace the cam seals, use only Volvo dealer seals. Volvo seals have longer lips than auto part store seals, auto part store seals will create a small leak over time. Don't ask how I know.

Yeah,

Rmeuropean dot com sells the Corteco seals for $8/each.
Volvo OEM seal is about $18 on line.
My local Volvo dealer wants $32 bones!!!

I always found that oil washes off, the big worry is Fuel, that will destroy asphalt. Concrete is the best for resisting both. I use an old shoe tray in the garage if there is a leak.

The big question is: what is a Erling and Corteco seal, see my last post:

How about a pack of Huggies? They stay dry on the outside and hold nuclear-bow-out poo on the inside.
