1998 V70 compressor to condenser hose

Post by vcowens »

My A/C compressor to condenser hose just blew off while idling. 270,000 miles. what are some possible reasons? It blew off at the crimping near the compressor which makes me think there was a pressure issue. I want to replace what I can before taking it in for recharging but I want to make sure I fixed the underlying cause. Thanks everyone.

Chances are the hose just went bad if the system was otherwise working OK. While it is not a common problem per se we get a half a dozen or so posts a year with the same problem and just changing the line, adding PAG oil, and recharging the system seems to fix the system without any other issues.

Since it was a violent loss of refrigerant, as opposed to a slow leak, a significant amount of PAG oil was lost along with the R-134A and it will need to be replaced or it will cause problems later.

That's a low side hose. My guess is that it just gave up because of age/corrosion. Replace it along with the accumulator then take it in to be evacuated and recharged.

You have the low side and the high side. The high side is from the compressor to the orifice tube. After that it's the low side all the way back to the compressor.

High side is under high pressure, the low side is lower pressure as it's after the orifice.
