Hi,
I'm Nick from Volvolemon Action Group Australia (VAGA) We are mainly concerned with the ETM failure issue and in seeking Volvo Cars Australia to match the North American extended warranty program. However one of our members is have transmission problems with his 2000 V70 T5. The ETM was also replaced. The information provided by Ken below seems to indicate an electrical problem not mechanical - yet his Volvo dealer wants to replace the whole gearbox.
If you have any suggestions could you post a reply and also email Ken at:
[email protected]
In the meantime I will recomend that our VAGA group join this site.
Information about VAGA can be found at www.vexedvolvo.org
Here is Ken's text:
Can anyone help me on this issue. Model is Volvo V70 T5, 2000 build.
I had my ETM replaced in December 05.
For some time (before the ETM failure) the gear changing had been erratic
and not very smooth.
By January 2006, it had deteriorated to the point where the car was
becoming difficult to drive in automatic.
Alto Volvo have diagnosed the following:
Fault Code TCM-0100 Control Model Faulty Signal
Fault Code TCM 0128 No neutral control
Fault Code ECM 644A Camshaft Control - Faulty signal logged in System
Harsh gear changes, thumps into gears (although not always)
They have recommended a new gear box imported from Sweden for the cost of
$6,053 and replacement of the Camshaft reset Valve for $693.
I have had further discussions with Volvo about the issue relating to the
Solenoids being worn out.
Is the diagnosis correct? do I need to have a new gear box or is it simply
a computer problem where the computer is sending the wrong signal to change
gears? Do the solenoids being worn out impact on the computer getting the
wrong reading? How does one know that the gear box needs replacing. The
car has done 100,000kms. Is this problem linked to the ETM failure?
Any help on this issue would be much appreciated.
Regards
Ken
